What Does a Hollywood Smile Include?
Hollywood Smile is not a single treatment but a combined package:
1. Laminate Veneers (Porcelain Veneers)
- Typical use: Healthy front teeth, minimal preparation, aesthetic transformation
- Thickness: 0.3–0.5 mm
- Tooth preparation: Very low (~10–20% of enamel)
- Lifespan: 10–15 years
- Advantages: Natural light translucency, minimally invasive
2. Zirconia Crowns
- Typical use: Where more form change is needed (large fillings, root-canal-treated teeth, fractures)
- Thickness: 1–1.5 mm

3. Teeth Whitening

💡 Clinical note: The 16-tooth package (upper 8 + lower 8) is the right call for most patients. Upper teeth are more visible when smiling, but if the lowers are not treated a shade mismatch becomes obvious. If we're not crowning the lower teeth, we at least whiten them — or veneer the lower 6–8 — to keep the result coherent.

How Is a Hollywood Smile Done?
A Hollywood Smile is completed in 2–3 visits over 5–7 days:
1. Consultation & Digital Smile Design (DSD)
We take photographs of your face from multiple angles, scan your mouth, and analyse facial proportions, lip line and tooth proportions. You see a digital preview of your new smile on screen.
2. Mockup (Intraoral Preview)
The digital design is applied in temporary acrylic to your real teeth. You try the new smile in front of a mirror and confirm what you'd like adjusted. The design is iterated until you approve.
3. Tooth Preparation (Day 1–2)
Under local anaesthesia, the teeth are prepared:
- Laminate veneers: only 0.3–0.5 mm removed
- Zirconia crowns: 1–1.5 mm removed
A digital CAD/CAM impression is taken. Temporary crowns / veneers are fitted.
4. Lab Production (Day 3–5)
The veneers / crowns are CAD/CAM milled, fired and characterised based on the approved digital design. This typically takes 3–5 working days. You can carry on with normal activities with the temporaries.
5. Try-In and Adjustments (Day 5–6)
The final restorations are tried in your mouth one by one. Shade, shape and margin fit are checked. Micro-adjustments are made if needed.
6. Permanent Bonding (Day 6–7)
Once you approve, the veneers / crowns are permanently cemented with a specialised adhesive. Bite is verified; any excess cement is removed.
7. Follow-Up at Week 1
Gum response and sensitivity are reviewed. Minor adjustments are done if needed.

First 24–48 Hours
- Avoid hot drinks and biting your cheek until the anaesthetic wears off
- Cement reaches full hardness in 24 hours — avoid hard / sticky food
- Mild gum sensitivity is normal and settles in 2–3 days
Daily Care
- Twice-daily brushing with a soft brush + fluoride toothpaste
- Floss every night — particularly between the front teeth
- Alcohol-free, fluoride mouthwash is preferred
- Avoid whitening toothpaste (it doesn't bleach restorations and causes shade mismatch with natural teeth)
Things to Avoid
- Biting ice, nutshells or hard kernels (especially with laminate veneers)
- Nail-biting, pen-chewing or other parafunctional habits
- Tea, coffee and tobacco — they don't stain the porcelain itself but do cause shade changes around the gum margin
Night Guard if You Have Bruxism
If you grind or clench, a night guard is mandatory. Without one, even laminate veneers can fracture in 2–3 years. Zirconia is more durable, but the night guard still extends its lifespan.

The standard Hollywood Smile treats 16 teeth (upper 8 + lower 8). The upper smile zone alone is 8 teeth; a wide smile covers 20; a full arch covers 28. For most patients, 16 is sufficient.
Should I choose veneers or zirconia crowns?
Healthy front teeth → laminate veneers (minimal preparation, natural translucency). Heavily filled / root-canal-treated teeth or bruxism → zirconia. The most common choice is the mixed approach: laminate veneers on the front 4–6 teeth, zirconia on the premolars.
How long does a Hollywood Smile last?
Laminate veneers last 10–15 years and zirconia 15–20 years. Proper care, a night guard if you have bruxism and 6-monthly professional checks all extend the lifespan. According to the Sailer 2015 systematic review, the 5-year survival of zirconia–ceramic crowns is 99%.
Will the teeth under the veneers / crowns decay?
Risk of decay is very low if the restorations are well made and have tight marginal fit. Without good oral hygiene, however, secondary decay can develop at the margin. Daily brushing, flossing and 6-monthly checks are essential.
Will the result look natural?
Modern digital smile design (DSD) and intraoral mockup get naturalness to an optimal level. Shade choice is critical: ultra-white tones (BL2–BL4) give the "Hollywood look", while A1–B1 tones are more natural. The mockup phase lets you test the proposed smile in your own mouth before committing.
Who is a good candidate for a Hollywood Smile?
Patients with shape irregularities, discolouration, old fillings / crowns, small gaps or uneven tooth lengths are good candidates. Not suitable for: active periodontal disease, untreated decay, age under 18 (jaw still developing), uncontrolled bruxism.
What if a veneer or crown comes off?
Keep the lost piece in a clean container, rinse the area with salt water (do not brush), and contact us within 24–48 hours. In most cases the same restoration can be re-bonded. If repeat dislodgement occurs, the marginal fit is reassessed.
Can I have my teeth whitened after a Hollywood Smile?
No. Veneers and crowns do not whiten — only natural teeth do. This is why whitening is done before the Hollywood Smile, on the lower teeth or teeth that are not being veneered. The shade of the new restorations is matched to the post-whitening tone.
