What Is Gum Aesthetics?
At Derya Dental Clinic, we offer our patients a minimally invasive solution with laser gum aesthetics at our clinic in Maltepe.
What Is a Gummy Smile?
A gummy smile is when more than 2 mm of gum tissue is visible while smiling. Its causes include:
- Excessive gum growth: Due to medication use or genetic factors
- Passive tooth eruption: Teeth have not erupted sufficiently, and the gum covers the tooth
- Upper jaw bone structure: Downward positioning of the jawbone
- Upper lip muscle structure: Excessive upward elevation of the lip
Who Is Gum Aesthetics Applied To?
- Individuals who show excessive gum when smiling
- Those with an asymmetric gum line
- Patients whose teeth appear short
- Those who need gum correction before laminate veneers or zirconia crowns
- Patients undergoing comprehensive aesthetic planning as part of smile design
How Is Laser Gum Aesthetics Performed?
1. Digital Planning
The ideal gum line is determined using smile photographs and intraoral scanning.
2. Local Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is applied to the treatment area.
3. Laser Application
The gum tissue is precisely shaped with a laser. Excess gum tissue is removed to reveal the teeth's natural dimensions.
4. Follow-Up
The healing process is monitored. Full recovery is typically achieved within 7-10 days.
Advantages of Laser Gum Aesthetics
- Minimally invasive: No scalpel is used; the laser provides precise cutting
- Minimal bleeding: The laser seals blood vessels, keeping bleeding to a minimum
- Fast recovery: Much shorter recovery time compared to conventional surgery
- Single-session results: Completed in a single session in most cases
- Suture-free: Generally does not require sutures
